Barcelona has been crowned champion of LaLiga for the 2025/26 season, marking their 29th league title. The team didn’t need to wait until the final matchday to secure the championship, as a stunning comeback and an impeccable finish to the campaign earned them the trophy. With three matches still to play and ten consecutive victories under their belt, there is no doubt they are deserving winners.
At one point, Barcelona trailed Real Madrid by seven points (though with a game in hand), but they now hold a 14-point lead over their eternal rivals with only nine points left to play for.
While their European campaign fell short of Champions League aspirations, Hansi Flick’s side has been nothing short of dominant in Spain. Despite dealing with key injuries throughout the season, their superiority was evident, especially in the last three months—they haven’t lost since February 16, when they visited Girona. In fact, they even surpassed their own numbers from the previous campaign.
Barcelona started the season as leaders after a 3-0 win over Mallorca. They held off the challenge from Real Madrid, who won their first six matches, and reclaimed top spot on September 26, the seventh matchday, with a one-point advantage.
The first dip came in October, when Barcelona suffered two defeats, including a loss in the Clásico at the Bernabéu that left them five points behind Xabi Alonso’s then-side after 11 games (25 to 30 points). However, November saw their main rival falter, and Barcelona took control of the standings (34 points to 33, matchday 14), holding on until the end of the first half of the season. They were crowned winter champions with 49 points, compared to Madrid’s 45.
After returning from Saudi Arabia with the Supercopa title—won for the second consecutive year against Madrid—Barcelona faced a tough stretch in the league following the “Arbeloa effect.” The arrival of the new coach at Madrid shifted momentum, and Barcelona lost their top spot on matchday 24 in mid-February after a 2-1 defeat to Girona. But from that point on, it was win after win. Just a week later, they regained the lead and never looked back, stringing together 10 straight victories to seal the title race with four matches still to play.
This is Barcelona’s 29th league title and their second consecutive under Hansi Flick’s management.
