Russia’s head coach Valery Karpin has addressed the question of who currently stands out as the best active footballer in the national squad.
When asked if it would be an oversimplification to say that Aleksandr Golovin is the number one player in the Russian team right now, Karpin responded, “Well, to put it simply, yes. In terms of skill, Golovin probably is. Or at least he’s among the top two or three. He thinks a split second faster than others and executes a split second quicker. Besides his technical ability, he’s also a team player,” Karpin said in an interview with Nadezhda Strelets’ YouTube channel.
Golovin, 29, has been playing for Monaco since the summer of 2018. This season, the Russian midfielder has appeared in 35 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing six assists. In total, he has played 267 games for the Monegasque club, netting 39 goals and 46 assists.
