Dominic Canzone crushed his first career grand slam, while Randy Arozarena delivered a four-hit, three-RBI performance, backing Bryan Woo’s six strong innings as the Seattle Mariners dominated the Houston Astros 10-2 on Tuesday.
The Mariners extended their winning streak over the Astros to nine games, dropping Houston to its fourth straight loss. Arozarena ignited the offense with a two-run homer in the second inning, and after the Astros tied the game, Canzone landed the decisive blow in the fourth.
Astros right-hander Tatsuya Imai (1-1), making his first start since recording just one out against Seattle on April 10 before landing on the injured list with arm fatigue, struggled with control from the outset. His return unraveled quickly, plagued by the same issues that hindered him last month.
Arozarena made Imai pay for a leadoff walk to Cal Raleigh in the second by smacking his fourth home run to left field. Imai surrendered another hit in that frame but escaped the third when Julio Rodriguez grounded into a double play. However, the bottom fell out in the fourth when Imai loaded the bases with no outs. He hit both Arozarena and Luke Raley with pitches, then issued a four-pitch walk to J.P. Crawford. Canzone followed by drilling a first-pitch slider 381 feet to right field, giving the Mariners a 6-2 lead. It was Canzone’s fourth homer of the season.
Arozarena went 4-for-4 with four runs scored, doubling in the fifth and adding an RBI double in the seventh. Imai allowed six runs on five hits, three walks, and three strikeouts over four innings.
Bryan Woo (3-2) gave up an RBI single to Braden Shewmake in the second and a game-tying RBI double to Christian Walker in the third, ending Walker’s 0-for-17 slump. Woo responded by retiring the final 11 batters he faced, matching a season high with nine strikeouts.
