According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Milwaukee Bucks have officially informed teams that they are open to trade offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo. After 13 seasons in Milwaukee, the growing rift between the franchise and the two-time MVP has become public, signaling the beginning of the end for Antetokounmpo’s tenure with the Bucks. The Golden State Warriors and Miami Heat are reportedly highly interested, while the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Lakers were also among the teams that pursued Antetokounmpo before the trade deadline.

Antetokounmpo is a franchise-altering player, and his availability is expected to trigger a league-wide bidding war. The Bucks had already engaged in trade discussions with Antetokounmpo back in February. Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam previously stated that the organization aimed to find a resolution before the draft, determining whether Antetokounmpo would stay or leave. Negotiations have resumed, with Antetokounmpo’s camp maintaining that both sides should move forward and seek a trade.
Despite opening the door to offers, the Bucks are not closing the door on a potential reconciliation. They are still exploring blockbuster moves to convince Antetokounmpo to remain in Milwaukee.

However, Antetokounmpo has expressed a clear desire to leave, and the Bucks are actively fielding calls to gather as many offers as possible. The trade market is expected to be highly active.
Sources indicate that Milwaukee is sticking to its asking price from the trade deadline: young core players and multiple draft picks.
Whether a potential trade destination aligns with Antetokounmpo’s preferences will be a decisive factor. He has two years remaining on his contract, with a player option for the 2027-28 season, so the ability of any acquiring team to offer a long-term extension will be crucial.
The Warriors and Heat, both missing the playoffs, are particularly aggressive suitors. The Timberwolves, Cavaliers, Celtics, Knicks, and Lakers all previously expressed interest.
The timeline for Antetokounmpo’s decision could become clear within the next six weeks. As Shams noted, “In the coming weeks, the Bucks will do everything they can to communicate and work with Giannis. Many teams will be interested, including Miami, Golden State, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Cleveland, and several teams currently in the playoffs. We’ll see what happens over the next six weeks.”
At 31, Antetokounmpo is a superstar who led the Bucks to the 2021 championship, earning Finals MVP. He is also a two-time league MVP, an All-Star MVP, Most Improved Player, and Defensive Player of the Year. He has been named to seven All-NBA First Teams, two All-NBA Second Teams, four All-Defensive First Teams, one All-Defensive Second Team, and 10 All-Star Games. He also won the NBA Cup and was named its MVP.
Where will Antetokounmpo end up? The basketball world will be watching.
