Joao Cancelo is pushing for an exit from Al Hilal, the club he is under contract with but which has not counted on him. The Portuguese full-back claimed he felt betrayed by the Saudi side, saying they deceived him, and he is clear that his future lies away from the club starting June 30: “Unfortunately, at Al Hilal I had people who didn’t tell me the truth. They said they would register me for the Saudi league list, and then, when the time came, they didn’t. And I’m always the one who ends up with a bad face… But at least I have my word, I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world, I’ve always been the same. I’m direct. I don’t hold grudges against anyone. Today I’m here, I’m very happy, I won a title with Barça, which for me is the best club in the world,” he stated on DAZN.

Cancelo stated that his future priorities are very clear, but he cannot say them publicly so as not to hinder negotiations: “I know what I want, I can’t say it publicly. We’ll see what happens,” he replied.

“The record of four league titles in four countries doesn’t surprise me, because I know my daily work, I know the dedication I have for this sport, for football. It has been my passion since childhood. I believe God always puts things in their place,” he added.

He once again declared his love for Barça: “For me it’s a unique feeling. Barça is a very special club for me; even before I came here I was a Barça fan. Winning a league with this club is very special. We’ll see what happens, because, as you know, I’m on loan from Al Hilal.”

Regarding the World Cup, Cancelo indicated that he will give everything to give Portugal a chance to win the title: “We will try. There are still three games left, we already know we are champions, but we have to be professional. We have to train. We don’t want injuries, that’s the most important thing, neither mine nor my teammates’ in the national team or at the club. When we get to the World Cup, we will be focused and eager to compete against all the teams we face,” he commented.
