Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper launched back-to-back home runs in the first inning, with Schwarber adding a second homer on the day, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
Schwarber finished with three hits, while Brandon Marsh contributed four singles for Philadelphia, which has won 10 of its last 13 games since Don Mattingly took over as interim manager on April 28.
Cristopher Sanchez (4-2) delivered seven dominant innings, allowing six hits and striking out seven while extending his scoreless streak to 21 1/3 innings. He has not surrendered a run since the first inning against San Francisco on April 30 and has won his last two starts.
Ezequiel Tovar recorded two hits for Colorado.
Rockies starter Tomoyuki Sugano struck out Trea Turner to open the game, but Schwarber crushed an 0-1 pitch 432 feet to center field for the lead. Harper followed with a homer into the Philadelphia bullpen, his 10th of the season.
The Phillies extended their lead in the second inning. Bryson Stott led off with a double, Alec Bohm walked, and Stott stole third, scoring on a throwing error by catcher Hunter Goodman that allowed Bohm to advance to second. Bohm later scored on Turner’s sacrifice fly, and Schwarber made it 5-0 with his second homer of the day and 16th of the season, tying New York Yankees star Aaron Judge for the major league lead.
Sugano (3-3) settled down to pitch five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits.
Philadelphia added another run in the sixth against reliever Seth Halvorsen. Marsh led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, advanced to third on a flyout, and scored on Bohm’s single.
Colorado had opportunities against Sanchez. Tovar and Jake McCarthy opened the third with consecutive singles, but Jordan Beck lined out, and Sanchez struck out Tyler Freeman and Goodman to end the threat. The Rockies threatened again in the seventh when Mickey Moniak and Tovar singled with two outs, but Sanchez got McCarthy to ground out to end the inning and complete his outing.
